WHAT IS MARKET RESEARCH?

Market research is the first link between the manufacturer and the consumer’s opinion of the product. Let us assume for a moment that a shampoo manufacturer notices sales are dropping. They contact a market research company to ask for a representative sampling of people of all ages who have used the shampoo. They want to find out how they feel about it in general, and specifically what they like and did not like about the product.

What happens to the information obtained from the research? The manufacturer and/or the research firm analyze the answers to find out that the shampoo leaves the hair with an oily feeling. The manufacturer then makes the necessary improvements, advertises “new and improved” and sales are up once again. Thanks to you, the manufacturer has a product that works for the consumer.
